328 people have died of cholera in southern Sudan

A total of 18,000 cases of cholera have been reported since 18 January 2016, of which at least 328 have died, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) said in a statement on Tuesday (August 8th) in Juba, the capital of southern Sudan.

More than 4 million people have been forced to leave their homes as a result of the war and food insecurity, the statement said, stressing that the threat remains high and calling on the international community to provide more humanitarian assistance.

The rainy season caused the spread of cholera to spread, as most areas of the epidemic are located near the Nile River, the statement said.
