Xavi reveals new details in the departure of Neymar from Barcelona
DUBAI (Reuters) - Former French club Aladdin and former Barcelona midfielder Xavi Hernandez have unveiled new details in the deal for Brazilian Neymar da Silva to join Paris St Germain after breaking his contract with the Belgrana last summer.
"Neymar told us at the wedding of Lionel Messi, Barcelona's top scorer, that he wanted to leave the Catalan club," Xavi said in comments broadcast by Spanish daily Sport.
"I asked him why," he said. "He told me he was not happy at Barcelona and preferred to leave and go into a new experience in Europe and specifically with Paris Saint-Germain.
"I think this is his personal decision and we have to respect him," he said.
Neymar's contract with Barcelona ended with the payment of an estimated 222 million euros in penalties, and joined St Germain to become the most expensive player in history.
Neymar scored 105 goals in four seasons with Barcelona and has won the Spanish league twice, the Champions League once, the Super-European times, the Spanish Super Cup twice, the Club World Cup once and the King of Spain Cup 3 times.
